22 persons arrested for attempting to cross over into Togo through Akatsi north

Some 22 persons have been arrested at Ave Hevi, a border community in the Akatsi North District, Tuesday night after attempting to cross over to Togo on motorbikes at about 11:00 pm.

The persons, comprising 17 males and five females, who claimed to be coming from the Akatsi South district, according to the DCE, Dr. Prince Sedoke Amuzu, were riding on five unregistered motorbikes, when they were intercepted by the District Security taskforce, enforcing the government’s COVID-19 restrictions.

A check on them revealed some were in possession of Togolese national I.D cards.

Dr. Amuzu said the motorbikes have been confiscated, while the suspects were detained overnight and were this morning, 16th April 2020, returned to the Akatsi South under police escort.

“They have been dispatched from Ave Dakpa this morning 5 am with a Police escort to the Akatsi South Police Command for necessary action”, Hon. Leo Nelson, District Chief Executive for Akatsi South DCE has also been informed accordingly.
