The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Sogakope has temporarily replaced a damaged transformer in the Agorkpo-Agorkpenu community of Sogakope in the South Tongu District of Volta Region.
The replacement which took place on Saturday, 26th June 2021, has restored power supply to the area after two weeks of power outages.
This prolonged outage, according to ECG, was due to their inability to transfer these customers to a nearby transformer in time.
An electrical engineer at the Sogakope branch of ECG said doing this was impossible
‘Usually, when we lose a transformer in a particular area, we transfer the customers to a nearby transformer until we get a replacement, but in this case, we could not transfer customers because it was impossible to do so, hence the prolonged outage.’
Those two weeks were unbearable for residents of Agorkpenu and parts of Agorkpo.
Cover Ghana revealed how some businesses were struggling during that period. Watch the video below:
Knowing the effect of the power outage, ECG has apologized for any inconvenience caused. They ask the people of South Tongu to take care of all ECG installations.
