Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome and Togbe Atsuga Sogah II, divisional chief of Sogakope and Fieve traditional area have both marked this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr by donating food items to the Muslim community in Sogakope.
Hon. Kobena Mensah, however, celebrated with Muslims in the remaining two communities of South Tongu. He donated to Muslims in Dabala and Dabala Junction.
He shared 20 bags of Copa Jasmine rice and 10 cartons of cooking oil among these three communities, Sogakope Zongo receiving the highest amount. Togbe Sogah, on the other hand, donated assorted drinks, biscuits and bottled water only to Muslims in Sogakope.
Their donations were both received by the respective leaders who blessed and thanked them for honouring the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.
While this is the first time Togbe Sogah is donating to the Muslims, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome has been doing this for a very long time.
This year, Hon. Woyome promised a mosque for Muslims in Dabala Junction. He revealed that this mosque will be built with groundwater which may solve part of their water problems.
His message for this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr was on religious intolerance. He encouraged Muslims in South Tongu to live in harmony with Christians and other religious groups.
Togbe Sogah encouraged the same thing during his presentation, only that in his talk he focused more on the youth. He encouraged the youth to work and desist from armed robbery and/or fraud. He also advised Okada riders to take their lives seriously as they go about their daily work.
The Muslims in South Tongu were generally happy with these donations. The assembly members for these areas were also pleased with the donations.
