Jasikan district assembly disinfects markets, public spaces

The Jasikan District Assembly in the Oti Region has carried out its disinfection exercise in all the twenty-four (24) markets across the district to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

A fumigation team of fifty-six (56) workers were joined by some youths of the district to help disinfect market centres, lorry stations, and other public spaces across the length and breadth of the district.

The fumigation team was grouped into four (4).

One team covered the Eastern Buem while the other concentrated on communities around the Central Buem. The other two (2) groups went towards the North West and South West Buem areas with communities such as Kute and New Ayoma benefiting from the exercise which many have largely described as very successful.

The six (6) hour exercise was undertaken by officials of Zoomlion Ghana Limited in collaboration with the Jasikan District Assembly (JDA). Support for the entire exercise also came from officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the Ghana Police Service (GPS), the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Ambulance Service (NAS) as well as the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Hon. Lawrence Aziale told our news team that the remaining parts of the district capital, Jasikan were taken care of during a mop-up disinfection exercise the next day.

He was happy that the residents were getting the needed education on the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that the Assembly was also receiving a lot of cooperation and support from the residents.

Hon. Aziale described the compliance level from members of the communities as very encouraging, thereby rating it as one hundred (100) percent with all shops, offices, and markets fully closed.

He was grateful to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as well as the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama for their vision and support towards carrying out the successful exercise.

A seventy (70)-year old retired civil servant and resident of Jasikan, Mr. Joseph Addy told our news team that the Covid-19 pandemic is a warning to the human race to change its negative acts and deeds that God frowns upon. Though Mr. Addy did not mention such sinful deeds of man, he pointed out that the world has become full of sinners, saying people in recent times are engaged in what he described as abominable behaviours and acts which constitute a huge sin before the creator.
