Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Friday, 13th June 2020 handed over a newly constructed Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound to the chiefs and people of Nyatikpo in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

In addition to the construction which cost some GHS170,000.00, he also donated a set of medical equipment valued at GHS40,000.00 to make the facility immediately operational. According to the MP, he was moved by the plight of the people some years ago.

“A couple of years ago when I visited the community, I was moved by their plight, particularly pregnant women who for many years have had to cross the Volta River to receive attention at the Battor Catholic Hospital because of the lack of a health facility in that enclave. In this regard, I am glad the CHPS compound comes with permanent residential accommodation for a midwife as I fulfill my promise to the community,” he said.

CHPS, according to the Ghana Health Service moves health services to community locations, develops sustainable volunteerism and community health action, empowers women and vulnerable groups, and improves health provider, household, and community interaction.
