On Tuesday, 14th April 2020, a delegation of the Volta Caucus in Parliament led by its Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Bedzra, the Hon. Member of Parliament for Ho West called on the Regional minister Dr. Archibald Y. Letsa with respect to the COVID-19 situation in the Volta Region and it’s attending issues.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Y. Letsa said they had a fruitful discussion, and it was agreed that there should be greater coordination among the Municipal and District Chief Executives, and the Hon. Members of Parliament with regards to interventions and logistics provided.
“It was agreed that there would be greater collaboration between the Regional Co-ordinating Council and the Regional Directorate of Ghana Health Service on one hand and the Hon. Members of Parliament on the other hand”, he stated.
At the meeting, they agreed that Dr. Archibald visits some towns such as Aflao and Germeni to make an appeal to the youth to observe the Directives from H.E the President, and the Ghana Health Service.
They also agreed that some relief packages in the form of water and food should be provided the vulnerable communities including the border communities. This is to be communicated to the government.
Finally, they agreed that they will visit and interact with owners of facilities being used as quarantine centers in the Region.
The delegation was grateful for the opportunity to hold the meeting and the courtesy extended to it. The Chairman stated the meeting would serve as a pacesetter in the country.
Dr. Archibald said he was equally happy about the meeting, and entreated the Volta Caucus to assist the government by educating their constituents on the virus, the directives, and protocols to follow.
He indicated that the Traditional Authority in the Region has been helpful in efforts to contain the virus situation.
He concluded that the meeting was the beginning of a series of meetings towards ensuring the welfare of the people of the Region, and the development of the Region as a whole.
Other members of the delegation were Mr. Rockson Dafeamekpor, Hon. MP for South Dayi; Mr. Gabby Hotorwodze, Hon. MP for Central Tongu; Madam Dela Sowah, Hon. MP for Kpando; and Ms. Dzifa Gomashie, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu South who represented the Hon. MP for the Ketu South.
In attendance were the Regional Director of Health who briefed the delegation on the virus situation in the Region, the Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, the Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, and the Regional Security Liaison Officer.
